5 And now I beg you, lady (Cyria), not as if I were issuing a new charge (injunction or command), but [simply recalling to your mind] the one we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.

2 John 1

5 So now I ask you, dear lady — not as if I were writing you a new command, but one we have had from the beginning — that we love one another. ⓑ

2 John 1

5 And now I want to ask you to do something. I am not telling you to do something new. It is the same law we had from the beginning. It is this, We must love one another.

5 And now I beseech (to call upon; appeal; beg) youi, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto youi, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
