Jude 1

3 Dear ones, while I was really intent on writing to you about the salvation we share, I had a compulsion I believe he is claiming inspiration here. to write exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith Wherein might “the faith” consist? Jude evidently contrasts it with what the “certain men” of verse 4 believe, teach and do, as explained in the following verses. I take it that for Jude “the faith” refers to the sum of Biblical values, the Biblical worldview or philosophy of life. once for all committed to the saints.

3 My dear friends, I was doing my best to write to you about the salvation we share in common, when I felt the need of writing at once to encourage you to fight on for the faith which once and for all God has given to his people.

3 Beloved, although I was making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, [22] I now feel a need to write to encourage you to contend for the faith that was once for all handed down to the holy ones. [AT]

3 Beloved, all diligence using to write to you concerning the common salvation, I had necessity to write to you, exhorting to agonize for the faith once delivered to the saints,
