Solomon's Burnt Offerings
1 ויתחזק was strengthened שׁלמה And Solomon בן the son דויד of David על in מלכותו his kingdom, ויהוה and the LORD אלהיו his God עמו with ויגדלהו him, and magnified למעלה׃ him exceedingly.
2 ויאמר spoke שׁלמה Then Solomon לכל unto all ישׂראל Israel, לשׂרי to the captains האלפים of thousands והמאות and of hundreds, ולשׁפטים and to the judges, ולכל and to every נשׂיא governor לכל in all ישׂראל Israel, ראשׁי the chief האבות׃ of the fathers.
3 וילכו him, went שׁלמה So Solomon, וכל and all הקהל the congregation עמו with לבמה to the high place אשׁר that בגבעון at Gibeon; כי for שׁם there היה was אהל the tabernacle מועד of the congregation האלהים of God, אשׁר which עשׂה had made משׁה Moses עבד the servant יהוה of the LORD במדבר׃ in the wilderness.
4 אבל But ארון the ark האלהים of God העלה brought up דויד had David מקרית יערים בהכין had prepared לו דויד to David כי for it: for נטה he had pitched לו אהל a tent בירושׁלם׃ for it at Jerusalem.
5 ומזבח altar, הנחשׁת Moreover the brazen אשׁר that עשׂה had made, בצלאל Bezaleel בן the son אורי of Uri, בן the son חור of Hur, שׂם he put לפני before משׁכן the tabernacle יהוה of the LORD: וידרשׁהו sought שׁלמה and Solomon והקהל׃ and the congregation
6 ויעל went up שׁלמה And Solomon שׁם thither על to מזבח altar הנחשׁת the brazen לפני before יהוה the LORD, אשׁר which לאהל at the tabernacle מועד of the congregation, ויעל and offered עליו upon עלות burnt offerings אלף׃ a thousand
7 בלילה night ההוא In that נראה appear אלהים did God לשׁלמה unto Solomon, ויאמר and said לו שׁאל unto him, Ask מה what אתן׃ I shall give
8 ויאמר said שׁלמה And Solomon לאלהים unto God, אתה Thou עשׂית hast showed עם unto דויד David אבי my father, חסד mercy גדול great והמלכתני and hast made me to reign תחתיו׃ in his stead.
9 עתה Now, יהוה אלהים God, יאמן be established: דברך let thy promise עם unto דויד David אבי my father כי for אתה thou המלכתני hast made me king על over עם a people רב in multitude. כעפר like the dust הארץ׃ of the earth
10 עתה me now חכמה wisdom ומדע and knowledge, תן Give לי ואצאה that I may go out לפני before העם people: הזה this ואבואה and come in כי for מי who ישׁפט can judge את עמך thy people, הזה this הגדול׃ great?
God Grants Solomon's Request
11 ויאמר said אלהים And God לשׁלמה to Solomon, יען אשׁר for thyself, that היתה was זאת this עם in לבבך thine heart, ולא and thou hast not שׁאלת asked עשׁר riches, נכסים wealth, וכבוד or honor, ואת נפשׁ nor the life שׂנאיך of thine enemies, וגם yet ימים long life; רבים long life; לא neither שׁאלת hast asked ותשׁאל but hast asked לך חכמה wisdom ומדע and knowledge אשׁר whom תשׁפוט thou mayest judge את עמי my people, אשׁר המלכתיך I have made thee king: עליו׃ over
12 החכמה Wisdom והמדע and knowledge נתון granted לך ועשׁר thee riches, ונכסים and wealth, וכבוד and honor, אתן unto thee; and I will give לך אשׁר such as לא none היה have had כן such as למלכים of the kings אשׁר that לפניך before ואחריך shall there any after לא thee, neither יהיה thee have כן׃ the like.
13 ויבא came שׁלמה Then Solomon לבמה to the high place אשׁר that בגבעון at Gibeon ירושׁלם to Jerusalem, מלפני from before אהל the tabernacle מועד of the congregation, וימלך and reigned על over ישׂראל׃ Israel.
14 ויאסף gathered שׁלמה And Solomon רכב chariots ופרשׁים and horsemen: ויהי and he had לו אלף a thousand וארבע and four מאות hundred רכב chariots, ושׁנים and twelve עשׂר and twelve אלף thousand פרשׁים horsemen, ויניחם בערי cities, הרכב in the chariot ועם and with המלך the king בירושׁלם׃ at Jerusalem.
15 ויתן made המלך And the king את הכסף silver ואת הזהב and gold בירושׁלם at Jerusalem כאבנים as stones, ואת הארזים and cedar trees נתן made כשׁקמים he as the sycamore trees אשׁר that בשׁפלה in the vale לרב׃ for abundance.
16 ומוצא brought out הסוסים had horses אשׁר לשׁלמה And Solomon ממצרים ומקוא and linen yarn: סחרי merchants המלך the king's מקוא the linen yarn יקחו received במחיר׃ at a price.
17 ויעלו And they fetched up, ויוציאו and brought forth ממצרים מרכבה a chariot בשׁשׁ for six מאות hundred כסף of silver, וסוס and a horse בחמשׁים and fifty: ומאה for a hundred וכן and so לכל for all מלכי the kings החתים of the Hittites, ומלכי and for the kings ארם of Syria, בידם by their means. יוציאו׃ brought they out
