Moab Rebels against Israel
1 ויפשׁע rebelled מואב Then Moab בישׂראל against Israel אחרי after מות the death אחאב׃ of Ahab.
2 ויפל fell down אחזיה And Ahaziah בעד through השׂבכה a lattice בעליתו in his upper chamber אשׁר that בשׁמרון in Samaria, ויחל and was sick: וישׁלח and he sent מלאכים messengers, ויאמר and said אלהם unto לכו them, Go, דרשׁו inquire בבעל זבוב of Baal-zebub אלהי the god עקרון of Ekron אם whether אחיה I shall recover מחלי זה׃
3 ומלאך But the angel יהוה of the LORD דבר said אל to אליה Elijah התשׁבי the Tishbite, קום Arise, עלה go up לקראת to meet מלאכי the messengers מלך of the king שׁמרון of Samaria, ודבר and say אלהם unto המבלי them, not because אין not אלהים a God בישׂראל in Israel, אתם ye הלכים go לדרשׁ to inquire בבעל זבוב of Baal-zebub אלהי the god עקרון׃ of Ekron?
4 ולכן Now therefore כה thus אמר saith יהוה the LORD, המטה that bed אשׁר on which עלית thou art gone up, שׁם on which לא Thou shalt not תרד come down ממנה from כי but מות shalt surely die. תמות shalt surely die. וילך departed. אליה׃ And Elijah
5 וישׁובו turned back המלאכים And when the messengers אליו unto ויאמר him, he said אליהם unto מה them, Why זה are ye now שׁבתם׃ turned back?
6 ויאמרו And they said אליו unto אישׁ a man עלה him, There came לקראתנו to meet ויאמר us, and said אלינו unto לכו us, Go, שׁובו turn again אל unto המלך the king אשׁר that שׁלח sent אתכם ודברתם you, and say אליו unto כה him, Thus אמר saith יהוה the LORD, המבלי not because אין not אלהים a God בישׂראל in Israel, אתה thou שׁלח sendest לדרשׁ to inquire בבעל זבוב of Baal-zebub אלהי the god עקרון of Ekron? לכן therefore המטה that bed אשׁר on which עלית up שׁם on which לא thou shalt not תרד come down ממנה not because כי but מות shalt surely die. תמות׃ shalt surely die.
7 וידבר And he said אלהם unto מה them, What משׁפט manner האישׁ of man אשׁר which עלה came up לקראתכם to meet וידבר you, and told אליכם you, and told את הדברים words? האלה׃ you these
8 ויאמרו And he said, אליו אישׁ him, a hairy man, בעל שׂעראזור with a girdle עור of leather אזור and girt במתניו about his loins. ויאמר אליה Elijah התשׁבי the Tishbite. הוא׃ It
9 וישׁלח Then the king sent אליו unto שׂר him a captain חמשׁים of fifty וחמשׁיו with his fifty. ויעל And he went up אליו to והנה him: and, behold, ישׁב he sat על on ראשׁ the top ההר of a hill. וידבר And he spoke אליו unto אישׁ him, Thou man האלהים of God, המלך the king דבר hath said, רדה׃ Come down.
10 ויענה answered אליהו And Elijah וידבר and said אל to שׂר the captain החמשׁים of fifty, ואם If אישׁ a man אלהים of God, אני I תרד come down אשׁ then let fire מן from השׁמים heaven, ותאכל and consume אתך ואתמשׁיך thee and thy fifty. ותרד And there came down אשׁ fire מן from השׁמים heaven, ותאכל and consumed אתו ואתמשׁיו׃ him and his fifty.
11 וישׁב Again וישׁלח also he sent אליו unto שׂר captain חמשׁים of fifty אחר him another וחמשׁיו with his fifty. ויען And he answered וידבר and said אליו unto אישׁ him, O man האלהים of God, כה thus אמר said, המלך hath the king מהרה quickly. רדה׃ Come down
12 ויען answered אליה And Elijah וידבר and said אליהם unto אם them, If אישׁ a man האלהים of God, אני I תרד come down אשׁ let fire מן from השׁמים heaven, ותאכל and consume אתך ואתמשׁיך thee and thy fifty. ותרד came down אשׁ And the fire אלהים of God מן from השׁמים heaven, ותאכל and consumed אתו ואתמשׁיו׃ him and his fifty.
13 וישׁב again וישׁלח And he sent שׂר a captain חמשׁים fifty שׁלשׁים of the third וחמשׁיו with his fifty. ויעל went up, ויבא and came שׂר captain החמשׁים of fifty השׁלישׁי And the third ויכרע and fell על on ברכיו his knees לנגד before אליהו Elijah, ויתחנן and besought אליו and besought וידבר him, and said אליו unto אישׁ him, O man האלהים of God, תיקר be precious נא I pray thee, נפשׁי let my life, ונפשׁ and the life עבדיך thy servants, אלה of these חמשׁים fifty בעיניך׃ in thy sight.
14 הנה Behold, ירדה there came fire down אשׁ there came fire down מן from השׁמים heaven, ותאכל and burnt up את שׁני the two שׂרי captains החמשׁים fifties הראשׁנים of the former ואת חמשׁיהם with their fifties: ועתה now תיקר be precious נפשׁי therefore let my life בעיניך׃ in thy sight.
15 וידבר said מלאך And the angel יהוה אל unto אליהו Elijah, רד Go down אותו with אל him: be not afraid תירא him: be not afraid מפניו of ויקם him. And he arose, וירד and went down אותו with אל him unto המלך׃ the king.
16 וידבר And he said אליו unto כה him, Thus אמר saith יהוה the LORD, יען אשׁר on which שׁלחת thou hast sent מלאכים messengers לדרשׁ to inquire בבעל זבוב of Baal-zebub אלהי the god עקרון of Ekron, המבלי not because אין no אלהים God בישׂראל in Israel לדרשׁ to inquire בדברו of his word? לכן therefore המטה that bed אשׁר עלית thou art gone up, שׁם on which לא thou shalt not תרד come down ממנה not because כי but מות shalt surely die. תמות׃ shalt surely die.
17 וימת So he died כדבר according to the word יהוה of the LORD אשׁר which דבר had spoken. אליהו Elijah וימלך reigned יהורם And Jehoram תחתיו in his stead בשׁנת year שׁתים in the second ליהורם of Jehoram בן the son יהושׁפט of Jehoshaphat מלך King יהודה of Judah: כי because לא no היה he had לו בן׃ son.
18 ויתר Now the rest דברי of the acts אחזיהו of Ahaziah אשׁר which עשׂה he did הלוא not המה they כתובים written על in ספר the book דברי of the chronicles הימים of the chronicles למלכי of the kings ישׂראל׃ of Israel?
