1 חזון The vision ישׁעיהו of Isaiah בן the son אמוץ of Amoz, אשׁר which חזה he saw על concerning יהודה Judah וירושׁלם and Jerusalem בימי in the days עזיהו of Uzziah, יותם Jotham, אחז Ahaz, יחזקיהו מלכי kings יהודה׃ of Judah.
2 שׁמעו Hear, שׁמים O heavens, והאזיני and give ear, ארץ O earth: כי for יהוה the LORD דבר hath spoken, בנים children, גדלתי I have nourished ורוממתי and brought up והם and they פשׁעו׃ have rebelled
3 ידע knoweth שׁור The ox קנהו his owner, וחמור and the ass אבוס crib: בעליו his master's ישׂראל Israel לא doth not ידע know, עמי my people לא doth not התבונן׃ consider.
4 הוי Ah גוי nation, חטא sinful עם a people כבד laden עון with iniquity, זרע a seed מרעים of evildoers, בנים children משׁחיתים that are corrupters: עזבו they have forsaken את יהוה the LORD, נאצו they have provoked את קדושׁ the Holy One ישׂראל of Israel נזרו unto anger, they are gone away אחור׃ backward.
5 על מהכו should ye be stricken עוד any more? תוסיפו more and more: סרה ye will revolt כל the whole ראשׁ head לחלי is sick, וכל and the whole לבב heart דוי׃ faint.
6 מכף רגל of the foot ועד even unto ראשׁ the head אין no בו מתם soundness פצע in it; wounds, וחבורה and bruises, ומכה sores: טריה and putrefying לא they have not זרו been closed, ולא neither חבשׁו bound up, ולא neither רככה mollified בשׁמן׃ with ointment.
7 ארצכם Your country שׁממה desolate, עריכם your cities שׂרפות burned אשׁ with fire: אדמתכם your land, לנגדכם it in your presence, זרים strangers אכלים devour אתה ושׁממה and desolate, כמהפכת as overthrown זרים׃ by strangers.
8 ונותרה is left בת And the daughter ציון of Zion כסכה as a cottage בכרם in a vineyard, כמלונה as a lodge במקשׁה in a garden of cucumbers, כעיר city. נצורה׃ as a besieged
9 לולי Except יהוה the LORD צבאות of hosts הותיר had left לנו שׂריד remnant, כמעט unto us a very small כסדם as Sodom, היינו we should have been לעמרה unto Gomorrah. דמינו׃ we should have been like
10 שׁמעו Hear דבר the word יהוה קציני ye rulers סדם of Sodom; האזינו give ear תורת unto the law אלהינו of our God, עם ye people עמרה׃ of Gomorrah.
11 למה To what לי רב purpose the multitude זבחיכם of your sacrifices יאמר unto me? saith יהוה the LORD: שׂבעתי I am full עלות of the burnt offerings אילים of rams, וחלב and the fat מריאים of fed beasts; ודם in the blood פרים of bullocks, וכבשׂים or of lambs, ועתודים or of he goats. לא not חפצתי׃ and I delight
12 כי When תבאו ye come לראות to appear פני before מי me, who בקשׁ hath required זאת this מידכם at your hand, רמס to tread חצרי׃ my courts?
13 לא no תוסיפו more הביא Bring מנחת oblations; שׁוא vain קטרת incense תועבה is an abomination היא לי חדשׁ unto me; the new moons ושׁבת and sabbaths, קרא the calling מקרא of assemblies, לא אוכלון away with; iniquity, ועצרה׃ even the solemn meeting.
14 חדשׁיכם Your new moons ומועדיכם and your appointed feasts שׂנאה hateth: נפשׁי my soul היו they are עלי unto me; לטרח a trouble נלאיתי I am weary נשׂא׃ to bear
15 ובפרשׂכם And when ye spread forth כפיכם your hands, אעלים I will hide עיני mine eyes מכם from גם you: yea, כי when תרבו ye make many תפלה prayers, אינני I will not שׁמע hear: ידיכם your hands דמים of blood. מלאו׃ are full
16 רחצו Wash הזכו you, make you clean; הסירו put away רע the evil מעלליכם of your doings מנגד from before עיני mine eyes; חדלו cease הרע׃ to do evil;
17 למדו Learn היטב to do well; דרשׁו seek משׁפט judgment, אשׁרו relieve חמוץ the oppressed, שׁפטו judge יתום the fatherless, ריבו plead אלמנה׃ for the widow.
18 לכו Come נא now, ונוכחה and let us reason together, יאמר saith יהוה the LORD: אם though יהיו be חטאיכם your sins כשׁנים as scarlet, כשׁלג as snow; ילבינו they shall be as white אם though יאדימו they be red כתולע like crimson, כצמר as wool. יהיו׃ they shall be
19 אם If תאבו ye be willing ושׁמעתם and obedient, טוב the good הארץ of the land: תאכלו׃ ye shall eat
20 ואם But if תמאנו ye refuse ומריתם and rebel, חרב with the sword: תאכלו ye shall be devoured כי for פי the mouth יהוה of the LORD דבר׃ hath spoken
21 איכה How היתה become לזונה a harlot! קריה city נאמנה is the faithful מלאתי משׁפט of judgment; צדק righteousness ילין lodged בה ועתה in it; but now מרצחים׃ murderers.
22 כספך Thy silver היה is become לסיגים dross, סבאך thy wine מהול mixed במים׃ with water:
23 שׂריך Thy princes סוררים rebellious, וחברי and companions גנבים of thieves: כלו every one אהב loveth שׁחד gifts, ורדף and followeth after שׁלמנים rewards: יתום the fatherless, לא not ישׁפטו they judge וריב doth the cause אלמנה of the widow לא neither יבוא come אליהם׃ unto
24 לכן Therefore נאם saith האדון the Lord, יהוה the LORD צבאות of hosts, אביר the mighty One ישׂראל of Israel, הוי Ah, אנחם I will ease מצרי me of mine adversaries, ואנקמה and avenge מאויבי׃ me of mine enemies:
25 ואשׁיבה And I will turn ידי my hand עליך upon ואצרף purge away כבר thee, and purely סיגיך thy dross, ואסירה and take away כל all בדיליך׃ thy tin:
26 ואשׁיבה And I will restore שׁפטיך thy judges כבראשׁנה as at the first, ויעציך and thy counselors כבתחלה as at the beginning: אחרי afterward כן afterward יקרא thou shalt be called, לך עיר The city הצדק of righteousness, קריה city. נאמנה׃ the faithful
27 ציון Zion במשׁפט with judgment, תפדה shall be redeemed ושׁביה and her converts בצדקה׃ with righteousness.
28 ושׁבר And the destruction פשׁעים of the transgressors וחטאים and of the sinners יחדו together, ועזבי and they that forsake יהוה the LORD יכלו׃ shall be consumed.
29 כי For יבשׁו they shall be ashamed מאילים of the oaks אשׁר which חמדתם ye have desired, ותחפרו and ye shall be confounded מהגנות for the gardens אשׁר that בחרתם׃ ye have chosen.
30 כי For תהיו ye shall be כאלה as an oak נבלת fadeth, עלה whose leaf וכגנה and as a garden אשׁר that מים water. אין׃ hath no
31 והיה shall be החסן And the strong לנערת as tow, ופעלו and the maker לניצוץ of it as a spark, ובערו burn שׁניהם and they shall both יחדו together, ואין and none מכבה׃ shall quench
