Word of the Lord Comes to Jeremiah
1 דברי The words ירמיהו of Jeremiah בן the son חלקיהו of Hilkiah, מן of הכהנים the priests אשׁר that בענתות in Anathoth בארץ in the land בנימן׃ of Benjamin:
2 אשׁר To whom היה came דבר the word יהוה of the LORD אליו בימי in the days יאשׁיהו of Josiah בן the son אמון of Amon מלך king יהודה of Judah, בשׁלשׁ in the thirteenth עשׂרה in the thirteenth שׁנה year למלכו׃ of his reign.
3 ויהי It came בימי also in the days יהויקים of Jehoiakim בן the son יאשׁיהו of Josiah מלך king יהודה of Judah, עד unto תם the end עשׁתי of the eleventh עשׂרה of the eleventh שׁנה year לצדקיהו of Zedekiah בן the son יאשׁיהו of Josiah מלך king יהודה of Judah, עד unto גלות the carrying away ירושׁלם of Jerusalem בחדשׁ month. החמישׁי׃ captive in the fifth
4 ויהי came דבר Then the word יהוה of the LORD אלי unto לאמר׃ me, saying,
5 בטרם Before אצורך I formed בבטן thee in the belly ידעתיך I knew ובטרם thee; and before תצא thou camest forth מרחם out of the womb הקדשׁתיך I sanctified נביא thee a prophet לגוים unto the nations. נתתיך׃ thee, I ordained
6 ואמר Then said אהה I, Ah, אדני Lord יהוה GOD! הנה behold, לא ידעתיבר speak: כי for נער a child. אנכי׃ I
7 ויאמר said יהוה But the LORD אלי unto אל not, תאמר me, Say נער a child: אנכי I כי for על to כל all אשׁר that אשׁלחך I shall send תלך thou shalt go ואת כל thee, and whatsoever אשׁר thee, and whatsoever אצוך I command תדבר׃ thee thou shalt speak.
8 אל Be not תירא afraid מפניהם of their faces: כי for אתך with אני I להצלך thee to deliver נאם thee, saith יהוה׃
9 וישׁלח put forth יהוה Then the LORD את ידו his hand, ויגע and touched על and touched פי my mouth. ויאמר said יהוה And the LORD אלי unto הנה me, Behold, נתתי I have put דברי my words בפיך׃ in thy mouth.
10 ראה See, הפקדתיך set היום day הזה I have this על thee over הגוים the nations ועל and over הממלכות the kingdoms, לנתושׁ to root out, ולנתוץ and to pull down, ולהאביד and to destroy, ולהרוס and to throw down, לבנות to build, ולנטוע׃ and to plant.
11 ויהי came דבר Moreover the word יהוה of the LORD אלי unto לאמר me, saying, מה what אתה thou? ראה seest ירמיהו Jeremiah, ואמר And I said, מקל a rod שׁקד of an almond tree. אני I ראה׃ see
12 ויאמר Then said יהוה the LORD אלי unto היטבת me, Thou hast well לראות seen: כי for שׁקד will hasten אני I על will hasten דברי my word לעשׂתו׃ to perform
13 ויהי came דבר And the word יהוה of the LORD אלי unto שׁנית me the second time, לאמר saying, מה What אתה thou? ראה seest ואמר And I said, סיר pot; נפוח a seething אני I ראה see ופניו and the face מפני thereof toward צפונה׃ the north.
14 ויאמר said יהוה Then the LORD אלי unto מצפון תפתח shall break forth הרעה an evil על upon כל all ישׁבי the inhabitants הארץ׃ of the land.
15 כי For, הנני קרא I will call לכל all משׁפחות the families ממלכות of the kingdoms צפונה of the north, נאם saith יהוה the LORD; ובאו and they shall come, ונתנו and they shall set אישׁ every one כסאו his throne פתח at the entering שׁערי of the gates ירושׁלם of Jerusalem, ועל and against כל all חומתיה the walls סביב thereof round about, ועל and against כל all ערי the cities יהודה׃ of Judah.
16 ודברתי And I will utter משׁפטי my judgments אותם על against them touching כל all רעתם their wickedness, אשׁר who עזבוני have forsaken ויקטרו me, and have burned incense לאלהים gods, אחרים unto other וישׁתחוו and worshiped למעשׂי the works ידיהם׃ of their own hands.
Assurance Given to Jeremiah
17 ואתה Thou תאזר therefore gird up מתניך thy loins, וקמת and arise, ודברת and speak אליהם unto את כל them all אשׁר that אנכי I אצוך command אל thee: be not תחת dismayed מפניהם at their faces, פן lest אחתך I confound לפניהם׃ thee before
18 ואני For, הנה behold, נתתיך I have made היום thee this day לעיר city, מבצר a defensed ולעמוד pillar, ברזל and an iron ולחמות walls נחשׁת and brazen על against כל the whole הארץ land, למלכי against the kings יהודה of Judah, לשׂריה against the princes לכהניה thereof, against the priests ולעם thereof, and against the people הארץ׃ of the land.
19 ונלחמו And they shall fight אליך against ולא thee; but they shall not יוכלו prevail לך כי against thee; for אתך with אני I נאם thee, saith יהוה the LORD, להצילך׃ to deliver
