Birth of Christ

Now Jesus Christ's birth was like this: When his mother, Mary, was betrothed to Joseph, before they physically came together, she was discovered to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.

Then her husband, Joseph, being upright and not willing to publicly disgrace her was intending to divorce here privately.

But while he was thinking about these things, lo, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in is by the Holy Spirit.

She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

Now all this happened, so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet saying,

«Lo, a virgin will be pregnant and will give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel, which being interpreted means: God with us.»

Then Joseph waking up from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife.

He did not know her sexually until she had given birth to her firstborn son, and he named him Jesus.
