Word of the Lord Comes to Ezekiel
1 ויהי Now it came to pass בשׁלשׁים in the thirtieth שׁנה year, ברביעי in the fourth בחמשׁה in the fifth לחדשׁ of the month, ואני as I בתוך among הגולה the captives על by נהר the river כבר of Chebar, נפתחו were opened, השׁמים the heavens ואראה and I saw מראות visions אלהים׃ of God.
2 בחמשׁה In the fifth לחדשׁ of the month, היא which השׁנה year החמישׁית the fifth לגלות captivity, המלך of king יויכין׃ Jehoiachin's
3 היה came expressly היה came expressly דבר The word יהוה of the LORD אל unto יחזקאל Ezekiel בן the son בוזי of Buzi, הכהן the priest, בארץ in the land כשׂדים of the Chaldeans על by נהר the river כבר Chebar; ותהי was עליו upon שׁם there יד and the hand יהוה׃ of the LORD
4 וארא And I looked, והנה and, behold, רוח a whirlwind סערה a whirlwind באה came מן out of הצפון the north, ענן cloud, גדול a great ואשׁ and a fire מתלקחת enfolding itself, ונגה and a brightness לו סביב about ומתוכה it, and out of the midst כעין thereof as the color החשׁמל of amber, מתוך out of the midst האשׁ׃ of the fire.
5 ומתוכה דמות thereof the likeness ארבע of four חיות living creatures. וזה And this מראיהן their appearance; דמות had the likeness אדם of a man. להנה׃ they
6 וארבעה had four פנים faces, לאחת And every one וארבע had four כנפים wings. לאחת׃ and every one
7 ורגליהם And their feet רגל feet; ישׁרה straight וכף and the sole רגליהם of their feet ככף like the sole רגל foot: עגל of a calf's ונצצים and they sparkled כעין like the color נחשׁת brass. קלל׃ of burnished
8 וידו And the hands אדם of a man מתחת under כנפיהם their wings על on ארבעת their four רבעיהם sides; ופניהם had their faces וכנפיהם and their wings. לארבעתם׃ and they four
9 חברת joined אשׁה one אל to אחותה another; כנפיהם Their wings לא not יסבו they turned בלכתן when they went; אישׁ every one אל עבר straight פניו forward. ילכו׃ they went
10 ודמות As for the likeness פניהם of their faces, פני had the face אדם of a man, ופני and the face אריה of a lion, אל on הימין the right side: לארבעתם they four ופני had the face שׁור of an ox מהשׂמאול on the left side; לארבעתן and they four ופני also had the face נשׁר of an eagle. לארבעתן׃ they four
11 ופניהם Thus their faces: וכנפיהם and their wings פרדות stretched מלמעלה upward; לאישׁ of every one שׁתים two חברות joined אישׁ one to another, ושׁתים and two מכסות covered את גויתיהנה׃ their bodies.
12 ואישׁ every one אל עבר straight פניו forward: ילכו And they went אל אשׁר whither יהיה was שׁמה whither הרוח the spirit ללכת to go, ילכו they went; לא not יסבו they turned בלכתן׃ when they went.
13 ודמות As for the likeness החיות of the living creatures, מראיהם their appearance כגחלי coals אשׁ of fire, בערות like burning כמראה like the appearance הלפדים of lamps: היא it מתהלכת went up and down בין among החיות the living creatures; ונגה was bright, לאשׁ and the fire ומן and out of האשׁ the fire יוצא went forth ברק׃ lightning.
14 והחיות And the living creatures רצוא ran ושׁוב and returned כמראה as the appearance הבזק׃ of a flash of lightning.
15 וארא Now as I beheld החיות the living creatures, והנה behold אופן wheel אחד one בארץ upon the earth אצל by החיות the living creatures, לארבעת with his four פניו׃ faces.
16 מראה The appearance האופנים of the wheels ומעשׂיהם and their work כעין like unto the color תרשׁישׁ of a beryl: ודמות likeness: אחד had one לארבעתן and they four ומראיהם and their appearance ומעשׂיהם and their work כאשׁר as יהיה it were האופן a wheel בתוך in the middle האופן׃ of a wheel.
17 על upon ארבעת their four רבעיהן sides: בלכתם When they went, ילכו they went לא not יסבו they turned בלכתן׃ when they went.
18 וגביהן As for their rings, וגבה they were so high להם ויראה that they were dreadful; להם וגבתם and their rings מלאת full עינים of eyes סביב round about לארבעתן׃ them four.
19 ובלכת went, החיות And when the living creatures ילכו went האופנים the wheels אצלם by ובהנשׂא were lifted up החיות them: and when the living creatures מעל from הארץ the earth, ינשׂאו were lifted up. האופנים׃ the wheels
20 על אשׁרהיה was שׁם thither הרוח the spirit ללכת to go, ילכו they went, שׁמה הרוח spirit ללכת to go; והאופנים and the wheels ינשׂאו were lifted up לעמתם over against כי them: for רוח the spirit החיה of the living creature באופנים׃ in the wheels.
21 בלכתם When those went, ילכו went; ובעמדם and when those stood, יעמדו stood; ובהנשׂאם and when those were lifted up מעל from הארץ the earth, ינשׂאו were lifted up האופנים the wheels לעמתם over against כי them: for רוח the spirit החיה of the living creature באופנים׃ in the wheels.
22 ודמות And the likeness על upon ראשׁי the heads החיה of the living creature רקיע of the firmament כעין as the color הקרח crystal, הנורא of the terrible נטוי stretched forth על over ראשׁיהם their heads מלמעלה׃ above.
23 ותחת And under הרקיע the firmament כנפיהם their wings ישׁרות straight, אשׁה the one אל toward אחותה the other: לאישׁ every one שׁתים had two, מכסות which covered להנה on this side, ולאישׁ and every one שׁתים had two, מכסות which covered להנה on that side, את גויתיהם׃ their bodies.
24 ואשׁמע I heard את קול the noise כנפיהם of their wings, כקול like the noise מים waters, רבים of great כקול as the voice שׁדי of the Almighty, בלכתם And when they went, קול the voice המלה of speech, כקול as the noise מחנה of a host: בעמדם when they stood, תרפינה they let down כנפיהן׃ their wings.
25 ויהי And there was קול a voice מעל from לרקיע the firmament אשׁר that על over ראשׁם their heads, בעמדם when they stood, תרפינה had let down כנפיהן׃ their wings.
26 וממעל above לרקיע the firmament אשׁר that על over ראשׁם their heads כמראה as the appearance אבן stone: ספיר of a sapphire דמות the likeness כסא of a throne, ועל and upon דמות the likeness הכסא of the throne דמות the likeness כמראה as the appearance אדם of a man עליו upon מלמעלה׃
27 וארא And I saw כעין as the color חשׁמל of amber, כמראה as the appearance אשׁ of fire בית within לה סביב round about ממראה it, from the appearance מתניו of his loins ולמעלה even upward, וממראה and from the appearance מתניו of his loins ולמטה even downward, ראיתי I saw כמראה as it were the appearance אשׁ of fire, ונגה and it had brightness לו סביב׃ round about.
28 כמראה As the appearance הקשׁת of the bow אשׁר that יהיה is בענן in the cloud ביום in the day הגשׁם of rain, כן so מראה the appearance הנגה of the brightness סביב round about. הוא This מראה the appearance דמות of the likeness כבוד of the glory יהוה of the LORD. ואראה And when I saw ואפל I fell על upon פני my face, ואשׁמע and I heard קול a voice מדבר׃ of one that spoke.
